+ learn the use of phrasal verbs

I. Warm up
Answer the questions:
1. Are you a student ?
- Yes, I do.
2. Do you smoke ?
- No, I don’t/ Yes I do.

- Help students how to read correctly with the rising tune
- Read the sentences first: clearly, correctly
- Listen and correct their pronunciation if it’s needed
- Explain to read the rising tune in Yes-No questions and sentence stress
- Let students read the sentences and work in groups

Phrasal verbs
Examples:
1. I look after my baby.
2. She usually gets up early
The underlined are phrasal verbs.
Phrasal verbs are combinations of verbs and prepositions or adverbs. These prepositions or adverbs are sometimes called particles
- 2 types of phrasal verbs
+ Separable : the object can be put either between the verb and the particle or after the particle
Ex : I looked the number up in the phone book
Or I looked up the number in the phone book
+ Inseparable : the object always goes after the particle
Ex: I ran into an old friend yesterday
We don’t say :
I ran an old friend into yesterday (WRONG)
T gives some examples of phrasal verbs
+ To explain sth to sb: giải thích điều gì cho ai
+ To point sth at sb/ sth: chỉ vào ai/ cái gì
+ To stare at st : nhìn chằm chằm vào cái gì

- Let students read all the answers and work in pair to choose one of the following verbs(in the correct form) + the correct preposition to complete the sentences
- Go around and help if necessary
- Listen and remark

- Introduces some phrasal verbs

apply for a job: xin việc
apply to sb: nộp cho ai
search …for: tìm kiếm
talk about st : nói về cái gì
